Paleo Day 13 – Race Day!

Today is my half marathon! I followed the stages for my Paleo runner’s diet. The results – amazing!! I ran a 1:59:25 for a course with two fairly large hills, for a 9:07 pace. Not bad! I felt great the entire race, and awesome afterwards! Enough to go dancing for several hours that night! 🙂

My rough estimates:
Protein (ideal 20-25%): 20% (previous days: 35-13-22-29-41-25-28-30-24-26-32-30-19)
Carbs (ideal 50-60%): 65% (previous days: 37-75-27-24-24-30-38-50-57-31-25-41-47)
Fat (ideal 20-30%): 15% (previous days: 28-12-51-47-35-45-34-20-19-43-43-29-34)

Stage I (2 hours before race)

  • 1 hard boiled egg
  • 1 banana
  • 6 oz baby food (apples and blueberries)

Stage II (10 mins before race, during)

  • sports drink

Run 13.1 mile race

Stage III (30 mins after race)

  • Recovery shake – orange/pineapple juice, 1 banana, glucose, protein powder, salt

Stage IV (2 hour span after race)

  • Cranberry bagel
  • 1/2 sweet potato

Stage V

  • Spinach and shrimp salad
  • Turkey burger w/ onions and cranberries
  • Asparagus
